the house slave, a position that exists to taunt the slave with the idea of a lavish existence and stylings but in the end is nothing but another layer of deceit in the enslaved mind.
having melted our shackles and turning it in to the capitalist machinery that we are forced to work in the methods of enslaving the mind has slightly shifted.
to keep the “middle” class there must be a permanent poor class so that those in the middle may feel superior, in the united states this is the african american populace, the formerly enslaved.
for this quick write i will not go over a history of what it means to be black.
but as blackness is seen as something inferior or lower to american hegemony to be black is to be a part of this “poor” class, sans economic wealth.
with this distinction the parallels to modern life cannot be ignored, to seek success in american capitalism one usually must participate in the parasitic individualism that exists when all like is turned into nothing but a competition. and in the class unity is dissolved. the middle class, either through working incredibly hard and fighting for every scrap of wealth that is earned, or from those that coasted by through luck or other means of wealth that may be inherited or gifted; the middle class although diverse, is only allowed to exist by the grace of bourgeois interest.
a common phrase for those that are trying to create their own wealth is “you ignore some things so that you can get further”
we all know this includes atrocities and evils, so why are we shocked when the world in turn becomes a bit more evil with every act that is ignored for our own self interest. and in this regard, with this mentality, we are houseslaves, seeking individual comfort even at the cost of our own community.
and the worst part of this all is the lack of recognition of what mental freedoms there are, although slavery is active and alive in the modern day, those that are not holed up in the prisons where this takes place still are stuck in a helpless mentality.
everyday we are faced with an option, live our lives in service to ourself, our community, and/or the system. goals can very easily be aligned with ourselves and community but to align ourselves w the system also means to align ourselves with the same violence domestically and abroad. initially it’s via education for those to readily be aware of how their actions affect all these, but in connection with community all these become obvious with how the system directly affects your community, and its ones choice on how they align themselves.
but most importantly of all is the want for the collective good and prosperity and acting upon that. the individual wealth that is generally yearned for is one based on taking from another, which does not need to occur. by strengthening the safety nets of daily lives that we all need first, collective quality of life increases
