it is often asked “what is a real man” but such a thing must be self determined.
when we tend to ask such questions i believe we’re really questioning what is realness in relation to masculinity. masculinity too, is self determined. but realness, that can be determined by one’s self and others.
realness in the most broad sense is honesty and responsibility to one’s self and the outside world. the relatability of being real, being truthful, strikes us all at our core because to be real with one’s self shows that one has thoroughly examined themself and accept what and who they are and how they exist in the world.
this acceptance of one’s self is truly remarkable in the greater context of the world that we live in as well. western society as it currently exists, begets its self based upon the disgust of one’s own body, this disgust evolves into other emotions as well and manifests as varying forms of depression, hatred, and a myriad of other psychological issues from the neglect of appreciation for ourselves.
and in this context it is clear why it seems to many that there are no “real men” such a thing cannot exist if no love and confidence can transpire in one’s self effectively. and because of this we too live in the consequence of a lack of “realness” this lack, in my eyes, is a lack of loving education.
a loving education is patient, thorough, and harmless.
in the physical aspect, the differences that are seen between the masculine and feminine bodies of humanity, it is seen that the masculine tends to have more physical strength. in this the man must learn to be disciplined in all aspects of their life if they would want to be a pillar of their life and community. this discipline is a loving education. discipline as concept is one that means something different to every individual.
but to me, it is the process of creating the most effective means to creating balance for one’s mind and body when engaging in any activity.
and via this definition it is clear how discipline is another means of education. the balancing act of becoming comfortable and confident in one’s body and mind and disciplining one’s self to fall in love with the current moment is one that occurs through trial and error, and in these errors you learn about yourself and you determine weather or not you change.
although change is the only constant in life it is scary, and in discipline you learn how to face your fears and you only improve at it. but in facing your fears you become “real” with yourself.
so the question of what is a real man or where is a real man is generally the question of “who has accepted themselves, faced their internal fears and struggles, and exists along the ‘masculine’ spectrum”
and even with this sort of conclusion i feel as if it is an even better question of who will be the pillar of society, the selfless act to raise another up, not for any gain but because they genuinely want to.
i don’t feel like writing anymore
